Set against those specifics, this isn't vaporware. Loft Orbital is an operating satellite-infrastructure business with customers including NASA, the US Space Force, Eutelsat, Microsoft, and BAE Systems, plus a live sensor-hosting arrangement with German defense-AI company Helsing — it raised $170 million in a Series C round in January 2025 at roughly a $1 billion valuation. Marlan Space's Altair constellation already flies 10 satellites; this is a stated expansion of a live program, not a pitch built from zero. The Abu Dhabi manufacturing facility exists and is sized for genuine production volume. The gap between the announcement and the coverage isn't over whether any of this is happening — it's over whether the language ("largest... ever deployed") describes what's actually being built, or borrows the scale of a more ambitious idea the industry is separately chasing.
