The OpenClaw Foundation published "OpenClaw 2.0, Accidentally" on August 30, written by Hannes Rudolph, the Foundation's community and developer relations lead. The two changes aimed at first contact: setup and the browser

The post frames this as something the OpenClaw team discovered it needed while building this exact release, using its own agents for more of the work and needing to share, collaborate on, and hand off tasks among the team. Peter Steinberger's own account on X confirms this wasn't incidental to the release but the explicit two-month project behind it: "Two months ago, we started the mission to 'build OpenClaw with OpenClaw,' and bit by bit, we moved everyone from using their local coding harness to using team.openclaw.ai — our shared agent that knows what everyone's working on and orchestrates it all." His framing — "multiplayer coding plus infinite compute with nodes and cloud sessions has been a game changer for how we build. Local harnesses feel like relics of the past now" — is the founder of the project describing his own product in the strongest possible terms, worth reading with the same skepticism this blog applies to any vendor's own launch framing, even when, as here, the underlying claim (the team used the feature internally to ship the release containing the feature) is a specific, checkable one rather than pure marketing language.

What the project says it isn't doing

The post closes on a positioning claim worth stating directly rather than folding into the feature list: "We are not selling anything here or asking you to trust one company, one model, or one AI provider with that future, because OpenClaw is open source and belongs to the people who use it and help build it."
